HOLLIDAYSBURG — Residents of the 80th Legislative District are invited to Rep. Jim Gregory’s (R-Blair) free shredding events to help safeguard themselves against identity theft.
The events will be held:
• 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 7, at the American Legion Post 516 Social Hall at 104 Dell Delight Legion Park in Hollidaysburg.
• 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 14, at Gregory’s district office at 135 Stadium Drive in Bellwood. This will be in partnership with the Borough of Bellwood.
“Identity theft is a worsening problem in today’s society, and it is important to take precautions from falling victim to fraudsters,” Gregory said. “Residents should ensure they shred sensitive documents such as bank and credit card statements, tax documents, anything that lists a Social Security number and insurance claim forms.”
There is a limit of 100 pounds of paper per household. No businesses, please. Shredding will be done on site by Burgmeier’s Hauling.
Paper clips and staples can be handled by the shredder. However, cardboard, hanging file folders, large binder clips and three-ring binders cannot be shredded.
Donations of non-perishable food (no glass items) will be accepted at both shredding sites to benefit two community organizations that provide food to needy families.
The shredding event being held on June 7 will collect food for the Williamsburg Community Food Bank. Food collected at the June 14 event will support the Bellwood Council of Churches Food Share Program.
For more information, call Gregory’s office in Hollidaysburg at 814-695-2398.
