HARRISBURG – Rep. Jim Gregory (R-Blair/Huntingdon) today announced the approval of funding of over $6 million in grants and low-interest loans by the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) for the Bellwood Borough Authority’s waterline and lead projects.

The authority’s lead project will receive a grant of $280,079, with a loan of $211,101, for a total of $491,120. These funds will be used to fortify existing service connections, which are classified as lead or galvanized and will be replaced. The lead or galvanized components of each service line will also be replaced to allow for the whole service line structure to consist of acceptable material.

The authority’s waterline project will receive a grant of $3,437,176, with a loan of $2,410.569, totaling $5,847,745 in funding. With these funds, the authority will replace existing cast iron water distribution with leaded joints, around 19 feet of 3- to 8-inch ductile iron water distribution main and associated valves. Twenty-one fire hydrants and service connections and appurtenances will also be installed within certain areas of Bellwood Bourgh, as well as a small portion of Antis Township.

“I have been proudly advocating to help deliver these funds for the Bellwood Borough Authority. The approval of this funding will provide the authority with the resources needed to continue to supply an ample amount of clean and safe water for its customers,” said Gregory.

Founded in 1988, PENNVEST provides grants and low-interest loans for design, engineering and construction of publicly and privately owned drinking water distribution and treatment facilities, as well as storm and wastewater projects.
