HARRISBURG – Tyrone Hospital will receive $1 million from the Hospital Emergency Loan Program to help it respond to COVID-19 cases in the region, according to Sen. Judy Ward (Blair/Cumberland/Franklin/Fulton/Huntingdon) and Rep. Jim Gregory (R-Blair).
The funding dispersed by the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority is designed to provide immediate working capital for personnel, equipment and personal protective equipment. It was made available by the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
“Tyrone Hospital is such an important partner in our medical community. I am so grateful they received much-needed funding to help them serve the people of northern Blair County,” Ward said.
Gregory said he called the hospital’s acting CEO Anna Anna on Thursday morning to share the good news. He described it as the highlight of his day to place that call.
“Tyrone Hospital, like many rural hospitals, is struggling, and this money will certainly go a long way to relieving financial stress,” Gregory said.
Tyrone Hospital is a 25-bed critical-access hospital, with five beds designated for intensive care.
“We will use this loan for operations as needed. We have been hit really hard financially through a decline in elective cases. Visits to the ER and outpatient visits are down significantly, too,” Anna said.
